Ranveer Singh is one actor who loves to literally – and quite passionately – sink deep into the character he plays onscreen. Hence, recently, we saw him looking dapper in his double barrel moustache look as Alauddin Khilji avatar at many of his public appearances.
But little did we know that ‘Padmavati’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali prefers to sink even deeper into the scenes of his film, and demands such unbelievable perfectionism for every frame, even if that requires him to be ‘brutally’ right for his actors. For a particular scene in the upcoming magnum opus, Ranveer Singh was supposed to be slapped by a co-actor.
Bhansali wanted the scene to look so impossibly authentic that he demanded that scene to be shot multiple times. So much so that Ranveer Singh got slapped 24 times owing to the re-takes. He was visibly red-faced by the end of the 24th time, when perfectionist Bhansali finally approved of it. It was senior actor Raza Murad who slapped Ranveer so many times.
Seasoned actor Raza Murad somehow fits perfectly in one of the roles of Bollywood’s period dramas. He played myriad roles in films as ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Ram Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and will now be seen in ‘Padmavati’.
While shooting for ‘Befikre’, it was Ranveer who wanted a slap scene to be so perfect that it was shot 21 times. And now, he got slapped again on the sets of ‘Padmavati’, albeit this time at the behest of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
And for those who think this is a mere rumour and no actor worth his salt and self-respect would tolerate being slapped so many times, Ranveer himself confirmed the news, with a tweet…
