Here's how much three of Salman Khan's films earned at the Box Office (Pic Courtesy: boc.com)

Salman Khan’s Eid release this year — Tubelight — is taking it’s own sweet time to light up properly. This is the first time film critics were heard saying that Salman has done a film which is unlike his usual masala flicks. While some had given it a thumbs down, many had appreciated it too – since there were many messages of hope as well as brotherhood in the Kabir Khan film.

Yet, this Tubelight failed to brighten up the cash registers at the Box Office. Here’s a comparison of Salman Khan’s last 3 Eid releases and how they fared in terms of business in their first week of release. That is because usually a film’s destiny can be determined within its first week itself (those like ‘Rustom’ and ‘Neerja’ being exceptions). Here’s a quick comparison…..

THE FIRST WEEK BOX OFFICE REPORT CARD OF SALMAN’S FILMS
BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN (2015) –  181.30 crore
SULTAN (2016)                            –  208.59 crore
TUBELIGHT (2017)                    –    103 crore

As per trade reports, Salman’s blockbuster ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ that released in 2015, collected Rs. 181.30 crore (1.81 billion) net approx. in its first week of release. Then, next year, in 2016,  Salman’s film based on a wrestler’s life, ‘Sultan’, tucked in Rs. 208.59 crore (2.08 billion) net approx. in its first week. Hence, in 2017, hopes were skyrocketing with the release of  ‘Tubelight’. This Eid release, however, has so far done a total business of Rs 103 crore (1.03 billion) net approx in its first week of release, resulting in a setback of sorts for the makers as well as fans.

The most astonishing thing about the difference in the figures of all these three films is that Tubelight is taking a bit too long to light up. Since Sultan’s Box Office collection surpassed Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s record by a good 20 crores, we were expecting the same with Tubelight  – that it will earn upto around Rs 220 crores. But that’s where the disappointment walks in.

We’re not losing hope at all. You never know Tubelight’s lifetime earnings may add up to a huge number, or God knows — maybe the next Salman Khan film tucks in a business equal to all the three. Whatsay, Sallu fans?
