Ever since Baahubali 2 has released, the internet is flooded with the one liners claiming the Film is breaking every Box Office records made by all the earlier films. However, since the today morning, a long forgotten director Anil Sharma who directed Gadar Ek Prem Katha has emerged out in social media claiming that his film was the bigger hit than SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2. He said “It is just a matter of time. There was a time when, in 2001, Gadar : Ek Prem Katha was released and had done a business of 265 crore, which as per today’s calculation is Rs 5,000 crore.” He further stated that his film had done a business of “Rs 265 crore in 2001 when the ticket rates were Rs 25 only. As per valuation, it is Rs 5,000 crore today and ‘Baahubali 2’ has just reached some Rs 1,500 crore, so no record has been broken.”
While till now the two mega Giant films Dangal and Baahubali 2 have made headlines for their collections and no doubt Baahubali 2 is giving a complete fight to Aamir Khan starred Dangal. Believing the Box Office report, Dangal is one step ahead of Baahubali 2 in its worldwide Box Office collection.
Baahubali 2 was made on a budget of est. 250 crore (Rs 180 crore for Baahubali: The Beginning) and it has earned est. Rs 1565 crore so far (Rs 650 crore in case of part 1). Now, in pure business terms, profit and loss is defined by the return an investment/return on investment (RoI) fetches you over time. As per this, Baahubali 2’s RoI stands at 626 per cent.
Now, compare this to that of Dangal. Aamir Khan’s real life inspired drama based on Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters was made on an est. 70 crore. While total collections so far, including the China box office collections, are at an est. Rs 1501 crore. Applying the same rule, Dangal’s RoI stands at a WHOPPING 2144 per cent – making it by far the most successful and profitable venture ever. The film Dangal, which first released in India in December 2016, has clearly emerged as the real Baahubali of the box office.
