Badrinath Ki Dulhania
Cast: Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt
Director: Shashank Khaitan
Badrinath Ki Dulhania begins with a montage of Jhansi where Badrinath Bansal (Varun Dhawan) a stereotypical village boy who’s happy bragging about his machoism. In no time, that predictable Bollywood film moment happens – boy meets girl. Bardi meets a strong and beautiful Vaidehi Trivedi (Alia Bhatt) at a wedding, and is wooed by her charm.
Badri makes multiple efforts to woo Vaidehi for marriage. But she is more interested in bagging a job. Later, the story takes a U-turn when Vaidehi who’d rather avoid Badri, surprisingly, approaches him with a marriage proposal, but with a condition. What happens next forms the plot of this romantic flick.
Alia and Varun are a delight to watch in their respective roles. However, you may also notice some nuances of Govinda’s persona in Badri through various actions, dialogues, and dance moves, and Alia Bhatt too does a great job as a UP girl.
Apart from lots of Razzmatazz, The film deals with serious issues like the discrimination against the girl child, the dowry system and patriarchy with humour. You should definitely go and watch the movie, at least once. You might just want to book another ticket too. The best part is how the movie seamlessly gives you a message under the guise of lighthearted fun.
