‘Munni badnam hui darling tere liye’…Does the song remind you of the sassy lass Malaika Arora Khan and our desi cop Chulbul Panday, the brother–sister in law duo who gyrated their way into the hearts of many fans that enjoyed every moment of the first movie in the series – Dabangg? Well, prepare for yet another blockbuster flick that is sure to be a bigger entertainer than its previous part.
Directed by Arbaaz Khan, Dabangg 2 is a sequel to the hit movie that aired in 2010. The movie stars Sonakshi Sinha, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Vinod Khanna, Sandeep Dobriyal , Sandeepa Dhar and Kamal Rashid Khan. While, the story is set in Kanpur, a city in Northern India, the very ethos remains intact. The villain this time is different and is played perfectly by Prakash Raj of Singham fame.
The main protagonists played by Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha are seen enjoying their marital bliss while the story takes a few turns and twists. The shooting for Dabangg 2 started in Kamalistan Studios way back in March 9th 2012. Most viewers have already seen the first look and songs that are being aired on different TV channels. Most of these songs have already become hits, though; much is expected from the item girl ‘Kareena Kapoor Khan’ who has danced to an item song in Dabangg 2. Yes, our Bebo has done a fun song in this movie that is definitely going to set everyone’s hearts on fire.
The actress has done quite a few item songs in her earlier movies like Tashan, Heroine and Billu Barber to name a few. This time, though, it will be the most anticipated item songs after her marriage. The song will be her first ever in which she has done pelvic thrusts and she is pretty much excited since it has been choreographed beautifully by ace choreographer Farah Khan.
The flick is slated to be released on 21st December 2012, though; many have already viewed the theatrical trailer that aired on November 10th. All the characters are the same with an addition of Prakash Raj and Sandeepa Dhar who plays Anjali. The trailer of Dabangg 2 aired on Big Boss season 6 with much fan fare. The characters of Prajapati Pandey, Chulbul Pandey, Rajo Pandey, Nanna Thakur, Makhi Pandey and Hawaldar return in the sequel.
The production of the film has been done by Arbaaz khan and Malaika Arora Khan and the script has been written by Dileep Shukla. The musical score has been given by Sajid-Wajid the duo who rose to fame with ‘Munni Badnam Hui’ in the previous film. Aseem Mishra has done the cinematography . Dabangg 2 has been made with a total budget of 75 crores(Approx $13 Million).
The distribution rights for the movie have been sold to UTV Motion Pictures for a whopping cost of 140 crores. This amount has made Dabangg 2 the film with the highest distribution cost. Viewers should not expect to see their favorite anti hero –Sonu Sood in this flick since he is not a part of it anymore. Dabangg 2 is a remake of the southern flick Gabbar Singh. It would be interesting to note that this Telugu movie has sold some of the scenes to the director. Gabbar Singh was inspired by Dabangg.
The character of Rajo remains the same – costumes and hair style remains the same as that of Dabangg. Sonakshi Sinha rose to fame from this movie that gave her a grand start. The famous dialogues “Thappad se darr nahi lagta, sahib pyar se darr lagta hai” made her an overnight star and is remembered by most fans. Viewers can see the same chemistry shared by Salman and Sonakshi as in the earlier movie. Though, Kareena Kapoor was selected to dance on the item song, it was Katrina Kaif who was the original choice for the dance number.
Dabangg 2 is the only Bollywood flick to have been shot extensively in a studio to recreate the city of Kanpur and this is one of the reasons why this film needed a huge budget. Some scenes that were shot in the studio were a qawwali song, shot with beautiful lights and effects. Since the day filming for Dabangg 2 started, rumors were rife with Salman replacing the original cinematographer Senthil Kumar with Aseem Mishra.
The costumes for Kareena Kapoor have been designed by Manish Malhotra and would be remembered for a long time.
The movie Dabangg 2 has already managed to create an interest among the audience. Much is expected from it. A thorough ‘masala flick’, the movie is definitely going to be a stunner. Make a prior booking since one can never be sure of getting the tickets on the D-day. Happy viewing!
