It’s been a while since the much controversial telly soap titled ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ hit our TV screens. The bottomline of its script is that an 18-year-old girl is married off to a 9-year-old boy, under some inexplainable circumstances. When the soap began, it showed how the little boy is enamored by this older woman and is clicking her. Now, the show’s latest episodes have shown how the two get married and she’s even fasting for her ‘little’ husband.

Ever since its inception, this show has been at the receiving end of a lot of flak from the media and the masses alike for its over-the-top regressive concept. And the fact that this is one step beyond child marriage. It’s the matrimonial alliance of an adult and a kid. Not to forget the unhealthy influence on the impressionable minds of little kids watching this show.

Popular TV actor and anchor Karan Wahi has also slammed the show requesting the makers via his facebook post to not serve stupidity to telly viewers in the name of content, that too only to desperately fetch some TRPs.

Karan Wahi’s colleague from the telly industry and also an actor of the same show ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’, Suyyash Rai, however, defended his show’s script and posted a message on his Instagram page. He explained that while Karan has the right to hold an opinion, the show is not promoting ‘child marriage’ at all and that the audience should watch it once to understand the premise of its script.

IT’S A WOMEN EMPOWERING SHOW!

The lead actress of the show Tejasswi Prakash Wayangankar told a portal, “Pehredar Piya Ki is a show where we are portraying a story that has a backdrop of North. But, what I feel is up till now we have been showing a poor and pitiable girl, who is made to marry an elderly man. But, this show is different; it is not about pitying women considering them weak. Rather it shows the power of woman, it’s totally about empowering women. The story tells us that how a woman can make everything fall on place, despite marrying a young guy, and how she takes care of him and protects him at the same time. I feel so proud that how the perception of audience today is changed, now, it is open to all sorts of ideas. I’m sure the show will reserve a place in their hearts.”
