After finishing a decent first week at the ticket counters, director Nishikant Kamat’s latest offering, Drishyam, has had a good second weekend also. The film minted Rs. 2.75 crore on Friday, Rs. 4.05 crore on Saturday and over Rs. 4 crore (actual figures awaited) on Sunday. Thus, its 10-day total business comes out to be around Rs. 57.8 crore at the domestic box office.
Drishyam is expected to grow on film viewers and get better collections at the cash registers in the coming days. Having said that, Akshay Kumar’s Brothers is set to release on 14th August, which might make it a little difficult for Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam to make big money post that. So the film must garner as much business as possible during this week. So far as the film’s reviews are concerned, it has been praised by the film fans and critics alike, and enjoys positive word of mouth publicity.
An edge-of-the-seat thriller, Drishyam is a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, which was written and directed by Jeethu Joseph. The 2013 thriller, starring Mohanlal and Meena in key roles, went on to become an all-time blockbuster. South actress Shriya Saran makes her Bollywood debut with Drishyam, as Devgn’s onscreen wife.
