The remake of the Malayalam blockbuster movie of the same name, Nishikant Kamat’s Drishyam was a super edge-of-the-seat thriller. Ajay Devgn was simply brilliant in it. A must watch!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s comeback film, Sanjay Gupta’s Jazbaa was the remake of the 2007 South Korean film, Seven Days. That Ash was returning to the silver screen after full five years, grabbed eyeballs and created quite a stir in cine-circles. But that was it! The film failed to rock the cash registers.
Tevar was the remake of Gunasekhar’s 2003 Telugu flick, Okkadu, which starred Mahesh Babu and Bhoomika Chawla in lead roles. Arjun Kapoor romanced Sonakshi Sinha in this Amit Sharma flick. Though it was highly publicized and was touted to be one of the most anticipated films of 2015, Tevar bombed at the box office.
Salman Khan introduced newcomers Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty in Bollywood through his production venture, Hero, which was the remake of Subhash Ghai’s blockbuster 1983 Hindi film of the same name. Despite a huge buzz around the romantic drama, the film couldn’t work its magic in our hearts or at the box office.
Directed by Karan Malhotra, and co-produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Karan Johar, Brothers was the remake of the 2011 Hollywood blockbuster, Warrior, starring Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Morrison, Frank Grillo and Nick Nolte in principal roles. Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra’s Brothers fared well at the box office.
6. Gabbar Is Back
Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar Is Back was the remake of the 2002 Tamil film, Ramanaa, directed by A. R. Murugadoss. It was also remade in Telugu as Tagore (2003) and in Kannada as Vishnu Sena (2005). Gabbar Is Back lived up to its expectations and garnered good business.
7. Hate Story 3
The latest of the lot, Hate Story 3 is inspired by the 1993 American drama, Indecent Proposal. Though the film’s fate is yet to be seen, it has been receiving mixed reviews and has opened to fabulous figures (Rs. 9.72 crores).
