Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Mirzya’ is a romantic tale based on the epic love story of Mirza-Sahiban. The two lovers, thwarted by bad luck, have always been spoken about in the context of unrequited, passionate love, et al. In the form of a movie, the film has juxtaposition of two situations – the current and the fantastical.
Set against the backdrop of breathtaking locales, Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher discover their love for each other, and fight for it by going against the will of their families. Whether they’re able to come together or not, forms the basic plot. There’s a lot of passion, melodrama, cultural extravaganza, sing-song sequences and action in this poetic and visual delightful film.
Mirzya is an ideal launchpad for Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan Kapoor (as love stories are the preferred entry points for star sons. Think Rishi Kapoor – Bobby, Kumar Gaurav – Love Story, Hrithik Roshan – Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Varun Dhawan – Student of the Year, Tiger Shroff – Heropanti…yeah, it’s a filmi legacy). But is this tale of star-crossed lovers worth your while this festive weekend?
HERE’S THE GOOD, THE NOT-SO GOOD ASPECTS OF THE FILM AND WHETHER YOU SHOULD WATCH IT OR NOT…
