Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Khoobsurat is a remake of 1980’s flick under the same name. The complete misfit for a royal family, Milli (Sonam Kapoor) takes up the challenge to bring life to the king’s numb legs. Meanwhile, she falls in love with the Prince charming (Fawad Khan), who is already engaged to an heiress Kiara (Aditi Rao Hydari). What remains to be seen is how Milli, often called as “Aafat” by “Khadoos” Prince Vikram Rathore gets accepted by the royal family.
Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan are in the lead roles, whereas the roles of their respective families are remarkably played by Kirron Kher, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Ratna Pathak and Aamir Raza Hussain. The plotline isn’t very complicated and the entire movie revolves around these lead characters.
A few songs like “Engine ki seeti”, “Maa ka phone” have hit the bull’s eye and added an essence of humor to the plot. Though those who have very high expectations from Disney, would be disappointed. Fawad has gracefully adopted the character of the royal prince and makes the movie experience so much better and bearable.
Sonam Kapoor has well adapted the role of a free-spirited, lively Punjabi girl but in a few instances has clearly over-reacted. Debutante Fawad Khan on the other hand, has insanely impressed the female audience with his powerful charisma and unique style. The chemistry between the lead pair might leave you awestruck. One can be positive about the fact that Fawad is a strong competition to the new faces and soon, would be casted in upcoming movies.
To conclude, I would say Khoobsurat is definitely far from reality, yet despite the dull moments, the lead pair, especially Fawad Khan makes it worth a one time watch. The direction could have been better with a more practical and candid plot. It’s definitely not meant for those who don’t have an eye for romantic or fairy tale like movies. Those who are wondering what this hype is about Fawad Khan, must watch this one!
