The unexpected has become true this weekend, all the tables has turned. Ramaiya Vastavaiya is predicted to be an average film and D-Day was supposed to beat it at the box office. But Ramaiya Vastavaiya kicked D-Day’s big butt and got ahead in the race.
This small town romance with a clichéd story of a NRI falling for the gaon ki gori and working as a farmhand to impress her brother did not get very impressive predictions. But director Prabhu Deva is known for taking a simple story and barging into the audiences’ hearts, and this is apparently what happened.
After it opened on Friday with 3.45crore at the domestic box office, Ramaiya Vastavaiya had pretty good jumps on the following two days. On Saturday it collected 4.25crore and 5.45crore on Sunday at the domestic box office.
The film’s success is based mainly from the collection from single screens as it hardly got any screen space in the multiplexes with big budget Bollywood and Hollywood hogging the theatres there. Ramaiya Vastavaiya will collect around 18crore by the end of this week. Its life time earnings will be around 18crore which is an average score, but will be considered as an achievement as it faced some good competition from successful movies like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag dominating the screens.
Following is the 1st weekend collection of Ramaiya Vastavaiya at the domestic box office:
|Total Domestic Collections||13.15crore|
