Nicholas Hoult would rather his friends mock him for his movie roles than lavish him with praise.
The ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ star – who began acting at the age of just seven, finding fame in ‘About A Boy’ in 2002 – finds it funny when his friends watch his films and laugh at his acting, but he insists it is better than being told he has done an “amazing” job.
He said: “No one at school really cared. I get more stick from my mates now. They love it!
“They’ll sit there in the cinema, watching me, and p**s themselves. But I’d much rather have that than people going, ‘Wow, that was amazing.’ “
The 23-year-old actor often gets “fed up” with the demands of showbiz life, and prefers to spend time with his friends rather than go to glitzy events.
He added to Radio Times magazine: “I get fed up being told where to go, what to wear, what to say, how to say it, where to look, what time I’m waking up, what time I’m leaving, what time I’ll be home.
“I presented an award at the BAFTAs but avoided the dinner and the after-party. I went out with some mates in London – we went to Bodean’s BBQ, had some drinks, had some pork. It was great.”
