Nicholas Hoult has said ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ strikes a balance between the traditional fairy tale and an action-packed adaption for a modern audience.
He stars as the titular character in the latest fantasy adaptation, which sees the traditional story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ given a “family action” blockbuster twist.
Nicholas explained to The Mail on Sunday newspaper’s You magazine: “It evolves ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ into a family action adventure about a young farm boy who is on a mission to try to save a princess from an ancient race of giants. It’s got action, romance and fantastic special effects.”
Fans of the original tale needn’t worry though, the actor insisted, because there is apparently more than enough to remind the purists of their childhood favourite.
He said: “There is a massive beanstalk that I got to climb, hanging 50 feet in the air with rain and win lashing against me.
“It’s one of many things that throw it back nicely to the original fairy tale.”
Thankfully, Nicholas coped fine with the huge special effects and high-paced action scenes, and he admitted he would struggle to envisage himself on a different career path.
He added: “I find it difficult to imagine doing anything else. Acting started as a hobby and then I was lucky enough to carry on doing it through ‘About A Boy’ and ‘Skins’ and eventually make a living from it.
“[But] I like to think that I could be a Formula 1 racing driver, or that I could invent something.”
